Situated on the left bank of river Boabri, Jhelum is a town on the Indus River and is in the tribal areas of Pakistan's North West Frontier Province. This is Pakistan's third largest city and Jhelum shares its name with famous historical personalities like Sardar Vallabha, Bhai Dooj, Chhotelal Mishta, Akbar Hussain Baba, and Qutub Shahi Moghul. The city was built by the Moghuls in the seventeenth century. After the Partition of Pakistan in partitioning East Pakistan, Jhelum saw heavy influx of both Muslims and Hindu settlers, whose ancestors settled here initially as merchants.

The old citadel, fortress, palace, fort, and tombs of great Mughal and Rajput rulers can be found here. The main artery for the city is the Rawal Lake, which connects the major cities via Jhelum.
